Summer Reading at your school...

So we had a conversation before dinner about what faculties are reading for summer. Please detail.

At MCDS we are all reading MINDSET, by Carol Dweck. She will be speaking at our school in the fall, and I can honestly say that the book has really made an impact on our faculty. It is making them think in real terms about how they address intelligence with students.

  1. I do not intend this to be self-serving, but at least four schools are reading "Good Things to Do" this summer. It's a CSEE publication in which we asked a score of experts in the field of education, child development, moral education (etc) to give us their top few suggestions on what parents, or teachers, could do to really make a difference in kids' lives. We asked them to write for an independent school teacher, or parent-- some wrote for one audience, some for the other--and to keep it short. It's a great collection of essays, including the ideas of Pat Bassett, Tom Lickona, Marilyn Watson, Hal Urban, Eboo Patel, Judith Smetana...
